Taroudant, The Grandmother of Marrakesh, and its surrounding area
Dar Louisa is nestled in the old walled city of Taroudant. The walls are the most complete of any walled city in Morocco and it is often known as the “Grandmother of Marrakesh” because it looks like a smaller Marrakesh with its surrounding ramparts. It boasts 2 souks; the Berber souk which sells spices and dried fruits , clothes and household goods and the Arab souk which specialises in handicrafts such as terracotta, wrought iron, pottery, brass and copper, leather and carpets, rugs and jewellery. Taroudant is geographically well placed; an hours drive takes you to the endless stretches of white sands along the coast near Agadir and the Atlas & Anti Atlas mountain passes are just 30 mins away.
